Plumbing and heating for Fulwood's larger, exposed homes
Fulwood sits on the hills at the western edge of Sheffield in the S10 postcode, with Lodge Moor to the north-west, Ranmoor to the east and Crosspool to the north-east. Beyond it the ground rises into open countryside and the Peak District National Park. The housing is a leafy mix — Victorian villas, inter-war semis and later detached suburban homes, many of them generously sized and on large plots.
Big houses in an exposed position make heavy demands on a heating system. There is more volume to heat, longer pipe runs from the plant to the far end of the house, often several bathrooms drawing hot water at the same time, and detached properties with more external wall and more wind on them than a sheltered terrace ever sees. Where a garage, annexe or garden room has been added later, the system usually has to reach further than it was ever designed to.
That is why so much of our Fulwood work involves system boilers and unvented cylinders sized for the actual house, proper balancing so the far end warms up as well as the near end, and protection of pipework in the colder, more exposed parts of the property. Every gas job is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and we will always explain what we have found before we start.
