There is barely any outside space at the back of our terrace. Where can a new boiler flue go?
A flue has to terminate a set distance from windows, doors, boundaries and openings, and in a close-set terrace that rules some positions out. In practice there is almost always a workable answer — sometimes a different wall, sometimes a vertical flue through the roof, sometimes relocating the boiler itself. We survey the property and confirm the flue route before quoting, rather than finding out on the day.
Where does the condensate from a new boiler discharge if there is no gully near the boiler?
Condensate needs to reach a drain, and in an older terrace the nearest suitable point is not always convenient. Options include running it internally to an existing waste pipe, taking it to an outside gully in properly sized and insulated pipe, or using a pump where gravity will not do the job. We work out the route as part of the survey so the installation does not leave you with pipework strung across the yard.
Our terrace has no rear access. Does that make a bathroom or boiler job harder?
It changes the logistics rather than the work itself. Everything comes in and out through the house, so we protect floors and stairs, plan deliveries so materials are not sitting in the street, and take waste out as we go. It is worth telling us at the quoting stage so the day is planned around it.
We share a yard and drains with next door. Whose responsibility is a blockage?
It depends where the blockage sits. A blockage in the section of pipe that only serves your property is normally yours to deal with; once the drain is shared between houses or has reached the public sewer, responsibility usually moves to the water company.
