Stocksbridge sits around ten miles north-west of Sheffield city centre, in the steep-sided valley of the Little Don below Underbank Reservoir and immediately east of the Peak District. The town runs into Deepcar at the lower end of the valley and up towards Bolsterstone and the Ewden valley above it — an area that only became part of Sheffield in 1974, and still feels a long way from the city.
