Compact homes, flats above shops and tight flue routes
Mexborough sits on the River Don close to where it meets the Dearne, between Manvers and Denaby Main, and runs straight into Swinton on its south-western side. A handful of buildings pre-date 1800 — the parish church has elements from the 12th century — but most of the town was built after that, as the Don Navigation, the railway, pottery, glassmaking and coal mining brought people in. Its High Street is now pedestrianised, and town-centre buildings like these often have flats above the shops.
That shapes the work we do here. On closely packed terraced streets, the hardest part of a boiler replacement is often not the boiler but the flue: it has to sit set distances from windows, doors and boundaries, and the plume of vapour from a condensing boiler can drift into a neighbour's yard. The condensate pipe needs a sensible route to a drain too. In flats above shops, space is usually tight — a combi in a kitchen cupboard, pipework running through floors and voids — and a leak upstairs quickly becomes a problem for the business below as well.
We plan around those constraints rather than working against them — measuring up, checking clearances and agreeing the flue and pipe routes with you before any boiler is ordered. Every gas job is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and we explain what we have found before we start.
