Looking after the heating in Gateford's newer homes
Gateford sits about a mile north-west of Worksop town centre, between the A57 and the A60. Since the mid-1990s it has been largely redeveloped with thousands of new homes, and the Gateford Park development alone had outline permission for up to 750 more, built by firms including Barratt, David Wilson Homes and Jones Homes. Older Gateford survives too: the Old Gateford conservation area, designated in 2009, covers a small cluster of buildings around the Grade II listed Gateford Hall.
Newer homes like these are usually built with sealed, pressurised heating systems, condensing boilers and, often, plastic pipework. That changes what goes wrong, and it changes what good maintenance looks like. Instead of sludged-up open-vented systems, we're more often called out for a boiler showing a fault code, pressure that keeps dropping, a condensate pipe that has frozen solid, or a leak from a fitting behind a boxed-in pipe.
Plenty of Gateford boilers are still inside their manufacturer warranty, which usually depends on an annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer. We carry out and record that service, and we'll tell you honestly whether a fault is a warranty matter. Many newer homes also have heating zoned by floor, with separate thermostats, so controls are part of the job too.
