Boiler repair & replacement
Servicing, breakdown repairs and full replacements, including conversions on older systems.
Heat365 are Gas Safe registered plumbers and heating engineers working across Wickersley and the wider S66 area. Much of the housing here went up between the late 1960s and the early 1980s, which means we spend a lot of our time replacing second-generation boilers and sorting out the microbore heating systems that came with them. Call us 24/7.
Wickersley is a village and civil parish about three miles from the centre of Rotherham, close to the junctions for the M1 and M18. Around the older village core and St Alban's Church, the estates that make up most of Wickersley today were largely built through the late 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s, with newer infill added since. Bramley and Sunnyside sit immediately alongside, and the S66 postcode also takes in Listerdale and Flanderwell.
That build era matters more than it sounds. Homes of that period tend to have been fitted with a sealed heating system from new, often run in microbore pipework — the narrow-bore copper that fans out from a central manifold. Many then had their first combi fitted in the 1990s or 2000s. Those combis are now well past their designed life, so the job we are called to most often in Wickersley is not a first conversion at all: it is a second replacement, on a system that has already been altered once.
That brings its own quirks. Microbore blocks far more easily than 15mm pipe once corrosion debris is circulating, so a system flush and a proper magnetic filter matter more here than in older housing. Radiators sized for a 1970s boiler running hot can feel underpowered on a modern condensing appliance running at lower flow temperatures. We check all of that before we quote, rather than swapping the boiler and hoping. Every gas job is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Narrow-bore pipework needs treating differently to standard 15mm. We flush, filter and balance properly rather than fitting a new boiler onto a dirty system.

In most cases yes. Microbore is not a fault in itself — plenty of Wickersley homes have run on it happily for decades. What matters is whether the pipework is clear. Narrow bore blocks far more readily than 15mm once sludge and corrosion debris are circulating, so we check flow and return temperatures across the system first. If it is heavily contaminated we will tell you what it needs, which may be a power flush and a magnetic filter rather than replacement pipework.
It depends on what has failed and what else is showing wear. A combi fitted in the early 2000s is at the end of its expected life, and once two or three major components have gone the sums usually stop making sense. We will diagnose the actual fault and give you a straight answer either way, including what would be involved in a replacement on your existing system.
Modern condensing boilers are most efficient running at lower flow temperatures than the boilers fitted to 1970s and 1980s systems, so radiators sized for the old set-up can feel less hot to the touch even when the room reaches temperature. If rooms genuinely are not getting warm enough, the answer is usually rebalancing, or upsizing one or two radiators — not turning the whole system back up.
