Plumbers in Walkley, Sheffield
Heat365 are Gas Safe registered plumbers and heating engineers working across Walkley and the S6 postcode. Walkley is dense, steep and mostly Victorian — stone-fronted terraces on hillside streets, ageing pipework, and a lot of properties that are rented or shared. We know how to work here. Call us 24/7.
Plumbing and heating on Walkley's hillside terraces
Walkley sits on a hillside in the S6 postcode, south of Hillsborough and north-east of Crookes, with Upperthorpe below it. Its elevated position is the first thing anyone notices — long streets that climb steeply, terraces stepping up the slope, and views out across the city. The housing is dominated by Victorian stone-fronted terraces, and a good share of it is rented or shared rather than owner-occupied.
That combination shapes the plumbing. Terraces built well over a century ago have usually been through several rounds of heating work, so it is common to find a mix of pipe materials and sizes, radiators added at different times, and a boiler that was fitted to suit a previous layout rather than the current one. Cold upstairs radiators, weak flow, sludge and a joint that finally gives way under a suspended floor are all routine calls for us in Walkley.
Access is its own part of the job. Narrow terraced streets with cars parked both sides, steep gradients, rear ginnels and cellars that are only reachable down a tight stair all mean turning up prepared. We plan for it rather than being caught out by it. Every gas job is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and we will always explain what we have found before we start.

“Needed a new boiler installed asap, got in contact with Ricky. Straight away he quoted & fitted me in quickly. The lads stayed for 10 plus hours and returned the next day to ensure I had water and heating. Can't fault the lads at all.”
“Great service, responded quickly and sorted my boiler out so I had heating and hot water back on in this freezing weather. Came out late on a Saturday night to fix. NHS discount too!!”
“Thank you to Rick and the team for fitting our new boiler and radiators. I waited a while before leaving a review, but 6 months down the line it's still working just as good. I would highly recommend.”
Plumbers in Walkley — your questions answered
Can't see your question? Call 07534 793949 — we're happy to help.
Parking on my street is impossible — will that stop you coming out?
No. Terraced streets with cars both sides are normal for us in Walkley. It helps if you can tell us when you book whether there is a permit zone, a rear ginnel or a spot we should aim for, but we will find a way in either way.
My house is on a steep hill and the top-floor radiators barely warm up — is that the gradient?
Not usually. Gradient itself does not stop a sealed heating system working; the cause is almost always trapped air, a system that has never been balanced, or sludge sitting in the pipework and radiators. We diagnose which of the three it is rather than guessing, because the fix is different for each.
Can you work on the original pipework in a Victorian stone terrace?
Yes, and it is a big part of what we do here. These houses often carry a mix of pipe materials and sizes added over decades, sometimes buried in solid walls or running under suspended timber floors. We use non-invasive leak detection wherever we can so we lift as few boards and cut into as little plaster as possible.
I rent my house — can I book you, or does it have to be the landlord?
For anything that is the landlord's responsibility the instruction and payment normally need to come from them or their agent, so it is worth calling them first. In a genuine emergency — a burst pipe or water pouring in — call us anyway on 07534 793949 and we will make it safe.
Do you cover Upperthorpe, Crookesmoor and Steel Bank as well?
Yes. We work right across this side of S6 and into the neighbouring streets, including Upperthorpe, Crookesmoor, Steel Bank, Netherthorpe, Hillsborough and Crookes. If you are close by and not certain, give us a call and we will tell you straight away.
