Heating and plumbing in a historic limestone market town
Tickhill is a market town about eight miles south of Doncaster, close to the Nottinghamshire border. Its shape was set by the Norman castle, and it has been a conservation area since 1970. Sunderland Street, North Gate and West Gate are lined with historic buildings, and Doncaster Council records 102 listed structures within the conservation area — among them the Grade I Church of St Mary and St Leonard's Hospital, a half-timbered building dating from around 1470. Limestone and brick are used in roughly equal measure, some rendered, under slate and clay pantile roofs, with long limestone boundary walls.
All of that matters for heating work. Solid stone and brick walls change how pipes and flues are routed and how rooms hold heat. Listed buildings may need consent for alterations that affect their character, such as a new flue through an outside wall. And older, larger rooms need radiators sized for the room rather than copied from a modern house. Beyond the historic streets there is later housing too, and some properties in the wider parish may not be connected to mains gas — if yours runs on oil or LPG, tell us when you call and we will say straight away whether the work is something we can take on.
Every gas job is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and we talk through the options — and any permissions worth checking — before work starts.
