Pressure falling on a sealed system means water is leaving it somewhere. That can be a small leak on a pipe or radiator valve, a failed expansion vessel, or the pressure relief valve passing and discharging outside. Topping it up repeatedly only masks it, and running low pressure long-term is not good for the boiler. We will find where it is going rather than just refilling it.

A code narrows things down but it rarely identifies the actual fault on its own. The same code can point at several different causes, and the one that shows on the display is often a symptom of something else. We test to confirm the cause before replacing anything, which avoids paying for a part that was not the problem.

On a modern condensing boiler that is very often the condensate pipe freezing, especially where it runs outside. The boiler locks out to protect itself and will usually run again once the blockage clears. If it happens repeatedly, the pipe run itself may be worth changing or insulating so you are not dealing with it every cold snap.

It is worth it for two reasons beyond safety. Manufacturers commonly require documented annual servicing for a warranty to remain valid, so missing one can cost you if a major part fails later. And a service is when the small things get spotted — falling pressure, a struggling component, poor combustion figures — while they are still cheap to sort.
