Cold-weather plumbing on the southern edge of the borough

Dinnington is a town in the south of the Rotherham borough, near Worksop as well as Rotherham, and its housing estates now run seamlessly into neighbouring Throapham and North Anston. It was a farming settlement of around 250 people in 1901; the sinking of Dinnington Main Colliery in 1905 took the parish to roughly 5,000 within a decade. The pit closed in 1992, and the built-up area recorded just under 11,000 residents in 2021.

The result is a town with Edwardian and inter-war rows at its core, mid- and late-twentieth-century estates around them, and newer development on the outer edges. What ties the heating work together is exposure rather than age. Dinnington sits high and open compared with the sheltered valley suburbs closer to Rotherham, and boilers on outside walls with an external condensate pipe are common across every one of those build eras.
